RDO Day in Midtown Atlanta
Modified By admin on 7/11/2006 8:57:01 AM)

Hey everyone

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying this hot summer! I am writing to you to let you know I am planning to host a Responsible Dog Ownership event on September 13 in Midtown Atlanta at Spire Midtown in the clubhouse, 7pm. This will be a human only event, dogs are not allowed in the clubhouse so I'll need lots of other visuals to get the points across.

I am planning to focus on responsibly raising, living with and training dogs within the inner city, including high rise condo living. I will speak about leash laws, proper use of leashes and different types of collars,  the importance of picking up after your dog, elevator etiquette, hallway etiquette, barking issues and also mention training and activities you can do with your dog including the CGC Award from AKC. I will focus on the importance of exercise and discipline, especially when your dogs live in a small space. I will mention that taking your dog to potty twice a day is not a replacement for a walk and exercise!

The event is registered with AKC and I'll be using their materials. I'll be showing their video on Responsible Dog Ownership at the event. AKC has sent me a TON of great information! I am also writing some of my own based on my experience living with dogs in the city these past 40 some odd years! LOL!

I am hoping to get more volunteers (you guys :-) to come and help me set up and answer questions. I want to put up display boards with snapshots of dogs with children, doing agility, obedience, conformation, cute puppy pics, walking on a loose lead pics, etc. (like the ones we make for "Meet the Breed" booths). If you want to make a display board for this event we would love to borrow it! (PLEASE!)

Also it would be terrific if I can get someone to volunteer to do a microchip clinic! If you have experience in that area please consider volunteering a couple hours at this event!  If you have access to a chip scanner we could show how easy it is to chip your pet and show how the scanner helps identify your pet. I also will be asking several vets to see if one would volunteer to do the chipping and speak on spay/neuter importance for pet dogs. So far I haven't had luck witha commitment, but I do have a few trainers who want me to distribute their biz cards.

Anyway, thats about all so anything you can do to help will be great! I hope to hear from some of you soon so we can have a planning meeting to get this thing going and make it great! I am sending out a press release as the date gets nearer.
Feel free to forward this to local dog clubs and shelters in the South East if you think they'd like to participate! Anyone may attend, but this event is mainly to get information to those living in condos or apartments inside the city who may not have access to this information otherwise. Also, this is to give people who may be interested in joining purebreed clubs or training clubs the outlet to do so. I'd love to see the attendees get their dogs signed up for local CGC classes!

OH one more thing -  if you have something you'd like to donate for a raffle, I'll donate the proceeds to the Stop BSL fund or the fund of your choice! Raffles get people to attend! If you can get donations for giveaways, please help me with that too! Spire and I will provide refreshments and flyers, handouts, etc.
